Adventure Tested2

Out with the ordinary – A new Trail Ranger 35ºF Sleeping Bag matches your adventurously dirty lifestyle.

Trail Ranger 35ºf Sleeping Bag - Gorilla Dirt
Trail Ranger 35ºF Sleeping Bag

We didn’t set out to reinvent the sleeping bag but rather to bring outdoor adventure-inspired designs to a sleeping bag. You can purchase solid-colored blue, black, red, or other simple color-designed bags anywhere. But we wanted something more – something different. We wanted something that matched our adventurous lifestyle.

Inspired Design

These Trail Ranger sleeping bags are inspired by the early 80’s color block snow jackets and topographic trail maps. The Topo bag uses Firebrush orange for the topographic lines.

Our Trail Ranger 35ºF sleeping bags are designed using rip-stop polyester for the outer shell and inner lining. If you happen to puncture the material or create a tear, the material is designed to resist ripping further until you can sew or patch the tear. The material also has a water-resistant coating.

Between the inner and outer layers, we’ve used a hi-loft hollow fibre polyester fill. Why? So many of our customers are overlanders and off-roaders that moisture can get on equipment when adventuring to their campsite. Polyester is more water-resistant than say a down filling. Plus, a synthetic polyester fill costs less, allowing us to keep the costs down, and thus the price as low as we can.

Lastly, zippers can make or break any equipment. We did not want to go cheap on the zipper and cause headaches for our customers. That is why our sleeping bags use YKK zippers so can be sure zipping up and down will actually zip up and down, and be able to do its duty for years to come.

Left Hand, Right Hand

For this launch, we designed the two sleeping bags we are releasing to be zipped up together. One zips up on the right side, the other on the left side. If you own both sleeping bag designs, you can zip them up together to create a more cozy two-person sleeping experience. The 1980 Trail Ranger is a right-hand bag.

A Rectangular Mummy Design

Since these were designed for car camping, we didn’t need to go full-on mummy style to save weight or have better foot insulation. If we are car camping, we typically have additional blankets or other added warmth layers. So, we wanted the foot space for a more bed-like experience. However, we did want to be able to pull the sleeping bag around our heads or ears for the cold nights. Thus, the head is mummy style and the foot is rectangular style.

Temperature Rating

We rate this bag as a 35ºF-degree sleeping bag. As a car camper, you obviously can use these in much lower temps, assuming you have additional insulation such as the insulated walls of a tent or even one of our Camp Blankets on top or beneath you. We used one of these bags, paired with one of our camp blankets in 30F temperatures. You know best if you are a warm or cold sleeper.

Generous Size

We went with a generous size, but not too big for those of you sleeping in rooftop tents. We went with approximately 82.5″ long (top of mummy hood to foot) and 33.5″ wide. Plenty of space for most adults down to the smallest kid.

Compression Stuff Sack

As mentioned above, these bags were designed for overlanders, off-roaders, van adventures – and car campers. As car campers, we pack as much gear, food, and other equipment, as we need for our adventures. Anything to save space is a gift from the adventure gods. So, we decided to use a compression stuff sack instead of your typical stuff sack. Just stuff your sleeping bag into the sack, pull the straps, and compress the bag down to a much smaller size.
